Campaign: Dick Gaughan: R/evolution 1969-84 – an 8-disc box set

Colin Harper and team put together a project of preservation, celebration and remuneration for Dick Gaughan, one of the folk music giants of the late 20th century: (1) to preserve, polish and present a remarkable body of work from 1969–83 (most of it previously unreleased); (2) to celebrate Dick’s incredible artistry once again, years after he and much of his recorded work have faded from view; and (3) to remunerate Dick fairly and squarely for that work. The 7CD+DVD box set in preparation will include over 9 hours of music and around 90 minutes of film.

Colin (project manager, curator) is the author of six well-regarded books on music including biographies of Bert Jansch and John McLaughlin and a history of uilleann piping. He has been involved in the music reissue/archive release world since 1992.

The campaign hit its initial funding target in under 24 hours, and went on to reach thousands of committed music fans worldwide, despite navigating some tricky administrative hurdles with Kickstarter – Dick Gaughan himself was amazed and overwhelmed by the scale of the response. I supported the team with strategic guidance and untangling of a few little knots along the way.

Since funding:

Colin is aiming to get the box set produced and with backers by October/November 2025, and is sharing updates via the Kickstarter page as the project takes shape.
