Campaign: Help uncover stories of queer domesticity and create a LGBTQ+ home in our galleries
In 2024, the Museum of the Home aimed to raise funds to co-create a new period room set which would uncover queer stories of home in the early 2000s.
The world’s only museum dedicated to home wanted to tell the untold everyday stories of Queer people in the early 00’s.
“Our work with various members of the queer community has highlighted the lack of LGBTQ+ stories in our galleries, and how important it is for everybody’s story of home to be represented. Across community consultation events, drop-ins and workshops, you told us about the importance of leaving your ‘hometown’ for the big city, meeting other Queers, and creating a new home with chosen family.”
I worked with the Museum of the Home team via Art Fund’s dedicated funding programme, Art Happens, providing guidance and strategic support on the campaign.
Since funding:
Museum of the Home have successfully created their new room set, and visitors to the museum can see it as part of Rooms Through Time.
