Campaign: Turned Red Earth

A combination of found poetry from the letters and diaries of WW1 soldiers with luminous contemporary photography of weeds and wildflowers: writer and creator Lucy Greeves brought Turned Red Earth to life as a series of billboards with generous support from SPILL festival, but also wanted to create a more permanent piece.

I worked with her to create and launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund the printing of a limited-edition artist’s book, in the run up to the 2018 centenary commemoration of Armistice Day; part of the campaign included developing a social media presence from scratch.

Jo was unfazed by our total lack of experience and very short lead time. She steered us expertly through the Kickstarter process, and was reassuringly unflappable throughout. We really appreciated her efficiency, her encyclopaedic knowledge of crowdfunding and her fair and transparent fee structure.

Since funding:

With a launch event held at the Photographers’ Gallery in London, and coverage on local and national networks, the project has been enormously well received; the creators are arranging stockists for the book to meet future demand.
