(Or does it? Nobody knows)
It’s a reminder to do two things.
Diversify your communications strategy – don’t rely entirely on one or two channels, because if they go down (or you lose access, or the platform goes under completely, or you displease the algorithms in a mysterious and irreversible way) you’re screwed.
And, make sure you have somewhere online that you own and control (like a website, or an email mailing list). Don’t make your business’s main hub a Facebook page that you could lose access to – if your audiences don’t know where to find you, you may lose them for ever. There are plenty of free or low-cost options for both mailing lists and simple websites. Make sure you have something that you control
That said… it’s considerably easier to give this advice than to take it! So in an attempt to follow my own advice, here are all the places you can find me talking crowdfunding and related work topics other than Twitter:
- Mailing list
- Part of the Doing It For The Kids community
- Part of the Arts Marketing Association
- New: Instagram account (bear with me, I’m learning!)
